Acupuncture points are marked in the body depending on the nature of overeating, hormonal system involved in it. This is done by an acupuncture specialist. Points are marked as per the requirements. Sometimes electrical stimulus is given through specific points for release of chemical mediator, endorphin to calm the system. After the needles are removed markings are given on the points with tags which can be stimulated to suppress the urge for excessive eating.

Duration of treatment is variable depending upon amount of weight loss required. It can be done once daily for one week followed by once in two days next week and once in three days in third week. In this way it is continued till the desired weight loss is achieved. Acupuncture is one of the additional modality for shedding extra weight.
